Today we'll go from:

this to this

Program: Photoshop CS2
Difficulty: Medium, if you're not used to Curves, easy if so.
Steps: 5

- This tutorial is very image-friendly, meaning that it works well with most images. If not with just the base layer, you can duplicate it and set it to screen and adjust it as fit.

Program: Photoshop CS2
Translatable: YES! :D
Difficulty: Easy
Steps: 5

1) Prepare your base. Don't brighten it unless its REALLY dark! I used this image from Jensen Ackles Daily. I cropped mine to 100x100, then sharpened it by going to Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen. I set the amount to 45% and the radius to 1.0.

2) Although this image of Sam isn't too dark like SPN caps usually are, it still needs a little brightening up. So make a new curves layer by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Curves and use these settings:

RGB: 71, 101

3) I love adding lighten layers of gray because it gives almost any image a cool effect, so go to Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color, use #2c2c2c and set this layer to Lighten at 100%.

4) To add just a little depth to the picture, we're going to make a Color Balance layer by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance. Use these settings:

Shadows: -13, +6, +8
Midtones: +8, -4, -11
Highlights: -18, -4, +11

Set this layer to 40%!

5) You're almost done! We need to add some life and color into the picture, so make a new Channel Mixer layer by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Channel Mixer and use these settings:

Red: +120, +16, -42, 0
Green: 0, +100, +4, 0
Blue: -6, +4, +102, 0

-Note: This layer can be adjusted according to the image.

You're done! I'd love to get feedback and see your results!! :)
